Whiskey Rebellion Flag T-Shirts Coffee Mug
To finance the new country the Federal government imposed an excise tax on whiskey and other distilled spirits. This infuriated many farmers. In Pennsylvania, the farmers refused to pay the tax and attacked the collectors sent from the government. The insurrection began in 1794, but was defeated when President George Washington sent in federal troops to calm the situation. This flag was used briefly during the rebellion.
