Seemingly a fading part of critical history: The Cold War. On 8 May 1945, Berlin, Germany, was divided into four sectors among the victorious allies: French, British, American, and Soviet Union. The latter erected a monstrosity in the form of a wall which they claimed was to keep the "corrupt western culture" out, in fact it was to keep East Berliners from fleeing to the west. The men and women of the Berlin Brigade served to "stand on the wall" against an overpowering force of armed communist aggressors. There were 10,000 allied military personal in West Berlin as opposed to 250,000 Soviets. Espionage was the order of the day. West Berlin stood as a shining beacon of democracy in the midst of communist oppression. The French, British, and American sectors withstood decades of attempts by the Soviets to force them out.
