The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is one of the most iconic landmarks of the City. It was featured in almost every Las Vegas movie. Designer Betty Willis created the neon sign in 1959. It was a cutting edge technology logo back than. The sign has the classic roadside pole design from the Googie architecture movement. Today it is a beautiful vintage monument. The sign sits alone in the median on the Southern Las Vegas Boulevard, but it has two other copies in Las Vegas. A small parking lot was installed near the sign in 2008 to give legal southbound public access to the landmark. The sign is located a mile south of Luxor, in front of McCarran International Airport.
