Poem for the morning cup of coffee
COFFEE Oh the bitter flavor of the morning bean. As any coffee lover can see it is not coffee I love but rather the caffeine. I wake and strain hot water through the grounds knowing that in moments this bitter concoction will jolt my brain so I may begin to think again. This ill liquid to which I add sugar and milk and then more sugar is so piping hot that I can’t drink it. Adding ice and stirring it in I finally tip the mug and my face becomes twisted and grim as the vile first sip passes my lip. More sugar and a shot of Frangelica, now with it sweet and scented I try again, but this time my face brightens to a grin. I have finally made the perfect cup of coffee again. ~David A. Brinkley
