The common raven is a large all-black passerine bird. Found across the Northern Hemisphere, it is the most widely distributed of all corvids.
In Norse mythology, Odin is associated with wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and is the husband of the goddess Frigg. Huginn (from Old Norse "thought") and Muninn (Old Norse "memory") are a pair of ravens that fly all over the world, Midgard, and bring information to the god Odin. Scholars have linked Odin's relation to Huginn and Muninn to shamanic practice, relating Odin's ability to send his "thought" and "mind" to the trance-state journey of shamans.
